BOOK ONE: CURSE OF THE RHINEGOLD
|
R. Scot Johns follows up The Saga of
Beowulf with The Ring Saga, a four
volume illustrated heroic adventure novel
based on Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung
opera cycle and old Norse mythology.
The Ring Saga tells the story of the dwarf
Alberich's Curse of the Rhinegold, which
sets in motion a sequence of events that bring
about the downfall of the gods and ultimate
destruction of the world. Mocked and spurned
by the lovely Rhinemaidens, guardians of the
Rhinegold, Alberich renounces love and forges
from the stolen gold a ring which brings to its
bearer power over all the world, but at a
terrible price. Used by J.R.R. Tolkien as
inspiration for The Lord of the Rings, this
is the story that began it all. Based on the Old
Norse sagas and Richard Wagner's immortal
four part opera, The Ring Saga tells the
story of the ring curse as it was originally
intended to be heard.
